Santorini Greece
Santorini has been called the most spectacular of the Greek islands and you wont hear any argument from us.
After taking a Tender to Athinios Port (the New Port south of the Old Port) a bus took us zigzagging up the hill to get some views of the island.
Thats the Santiorini airport (LGSR) towards the right
Another view from the top
Art at the side of the road
A shot of the caldera thru the bus window whilst riding along the road
White walls with blue dome is a familiar theme for churches in Santorini
But its not the only place blue is used.
I wonder if it has something to do with the colour of the sky and water
A church in the main plaza in Oia Village, with bells and blue dome of course
Closeup of the artwork above the door
It must be tough to live here and be forced to look at scenery like this every day
Ellen and friend
Whats this? No blue dome?
Ah, thats better.
Does this qualify as a self portrait?
A church in Fira
Fira is above the Old Port where our ship is anchored.
Walking along to where we can get down to the docks
Looking over the edge you can see our ship
(the one with four masts)
Fira is 1000 feet above the Old Port,
Theres three choices to get down to the dock:
by Donkey, by foot (down the same trail the Donkeys take),
or by cable car. Guess which one we took :-)
Looking from the cable car back up at Fira,
on the left you can see the walkway/Donkeyway
A view of the ship on our way down
The cable car
A look back up at Fira from the dock
Absolute nothing to do with our trip, I just liked it
A shot from the tender as we approached our ship
A look back as we're leaving Santorini,
the buildings are so white it looks like snow
Several hours later the sun is setting
and its gone
